Dickinson County To See Increase In Road Use Tax Funds

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Some good news for Dickinson county’s road program in the upcoming fiscal year. That word from Dickinson County Engineer Dan Eckert.

Eckert says the share of road use tax funds projected to come back to Dickinson County in the 2003 fiscal year is projected at one-point-nine million dollars…up about 400 dollars from the current fiscal year.

Even though Dickinson county will receive more funding, it’s ranking has slipped. Eckert says the county is now ranked dead last in the state based on geographical size and need. He says the needs formula drops as roads and bridges improve. But Eckert feels rapidly growing counties such as Dickinson should be entitled to a greater piece of the pie. He says efforts to get that changed in the legislature have failed in the past.

Road Use Tax Funds come from gasoline tax receipts, which went up slightly in the last year due as a result of an increase in travel.
