(Spirit Lake)– We may hot have had any yet, but Dickinson county’s road crews are ready for the snow to fly.
County engineer Dan Eckert says they’ve laid in a supply of 100 tons of salt that will be mixed with sand to get rid of ice.
And, he says, the county has a new weapon this year in its snow removal arsenal. Crews will be using v-mounted snowplows on tandem axel trucks on gravel roads. In the past, road graders were used. Eckert says the intent is to get the gravel roads open faster.
As in the past, Eckert says some 52 miles of gravel roads won’t be plowed at all again this winter. Those roads don’t have anyone living along them and aren’t on a bus or mail route. They’ve been posted with warning signs.
