(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson County Conservation Foundation members were back at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting requesting an easement on county-owned farm land near Kenue Park north of Okoboji. They want to move the former Back Porch building onto the site and convert it to an environmental learning center. The remaining farm land would be put into the Conservation Reserve Program if details can be worked out with the Farm Service Agency. The land is currently used as test plots by the Okoboji and Harris-Lake Park High School FFA chapters. Neither is interested in continuing to farm it…according to foundation member Jim Teul.
The supervisors took no action on the easement request.
Teul says they’ve raised about 26-thousand dollars…enough to move the building. Additional money will have to be raised for a foundation for the building to sit on.
