Dickinson Co. Voters Re-Elect Incumbents For County Recorder; Dis. 2 Supervisor; Defeat Increase In Phone Line Surcharge

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson county voters have returned incumbent Mardi Allen to her district 2 seat on the board of supervisors and long-time incumbent Jan Bortscheller as County Recorder. At the same time, they rejected a proposal to increase a surcharge on land line phone lines to upgrade 911 equipment in the Communications Center.

Unofficial results show Allen winning re-election to her district 2 seat on the board of supervisors, defeating challenger Mike Koppert 911 to 468.

Jan Bortscheller was easily re-elected County Recorder in a three-way race. She received 3,376. The next highest vote-getter was Susan Reiter with 1,438 followed by Lezlie Boetel with 1,212.

John Senn and Duwayne Grothaus were elected to two open seats on the Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary Sewer District Board of Trustees, defeating Matt McHugh. Senn had 2,831 votes and Grothaus received 2,002…compared with 1,880 for McHugh.

A proposal that would increase a monthly surcharge on land line phones in Dickinson county to a dollar a month per line was narrowly defeated according to unofficial results. 3,440 were opposed while 3,247 were in favor. Proceeds from the increased fee would have been used to upgrade 911 equipment in the county’s Communication Center.
