Dickinson Co. Supervisors Vote To Retain Architect

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday voted to retain the services of the R-D-G Busard Dikis architectural firm of Des Moines to draw up a proposal for the upcoming courthouse bond issue referendum. The motion is contingent on satisfactory fees being negotiated with the firm. The vote was unanimous.

Prior to the action, the supervisors reviewed a list of cost estimates associated with the 1891 building. They include 150-thousand dollars to replace exterior brick or 100-thousand to restore the brick; possibly as much as 600-thousand dollars to replace and repair plumbing, heating, cooling and ventilation systems; upgrading the electrical system was estimated at 374-thousand and the cost of demolishing the structure was estimated at between 175-thousand and 200-thousand dollars.

The supervisors also reviewed the last three bond issues and reasons why they failed.
