Dickinson Co Supervisors Rescind Jones Pasture Bid; Award New One

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors voted unanimously this (Tues.) morning to rescind a motion made at a meeting earlier this month to award a bid on the Jones Pasture Tax Increment Finance Project to Tug Helmers Construction of Estherville, the apparent low bidder on the project.

The supervisors took the action today (Tues.) after the County Engineer told them the bid did not meet specifications for a slip form paver, as outlined in bidding documents.

The board then awarded the bid to the next highest bidder, Cedar Valley Contracting, in the amount of $708,315.

A man who was victorious in the June primary election for Dickinson County Attorney will be able to get his feet wet in the office prior to the November General Election. The board of supervisors today (Tues.) approved a request from County Attorney Rosalise Olsen to appoint Jason Carlstrom as a full-time assistant in her Office retroactive to September 1st.

The supervisors took no action today (Tues.) on some e-mail correspondence from the city of Spirit Lake requesting the possible use of the Community Room in the Courthouse to hold city council meetings until further notice. Further decline of the city hall has city officials scrambling for possible options.

Saying they want to hear firsthand from city officials, the supervisors took no action on the matter today (Tues.), although a couple, including Chairman David Gottsche, suggested the city visit with the Fair Board over the possible utilization of space in the Community Building, like the county did while the courthouse was being built.
