(Spirit Lake)– Meeting in a joint session this (Tuesday) morning, the Dickinson county board of supervisors and the Milford city council awarded a bid on the Lower Gar project. It consists of installing two additional culverts, each six inches above the weir of the dam.
The project was awarded to Christensen Brothers of Cherokee, the low bidder in the amount of $357,711. It came in below the engineer’s estimate of $364,541.
Four firms bid on the project.
Under the contract, work on the project can start no later than November 1st with a winter shutdown of November 15th if the weather is no longer conducive to construction continuing at that point. Should that be the case, Eckert says the contractor would be required to have the road temporarily restored so it could be driveable.
The November 15th winter shut down was a concern to Milford City Attorney David Stein, Jr. who said the city would like some guarantee the contractor wouldn’t up and leaveon that date even if the weather was still nice.
Stein also said the city council wants a chance to review the form of contract before it’s sent to the contractor to identify any potential concerns prior to the work getting started. They’ll do that at a special meeting tentatively scheduled for Noon this Friday.
