Dickinson Co. Supervisors Adopt Resolution Opposing Voluntary Annexation Request

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors have officially gone on record opposing the proposed voluntary annexation of the Bay Rym area into the city of Okoboji.

The supervisors adopted a resolution to that affect at their meeting Tuesday. It sites several factors behind the county’s opposition, including the fact that vital services are already being provided to the area. The resolution also notes the implication the loss of 22.5 million dollars in property valuation would have on the county. It also calls on the State Development Board to consider those factors when making its ruling.

The cities of Spirit Lake and Wahpeton, who have boundaries that are within two miles of the area being proposed for annexation, must also approve the measure, in addition to the State Development Board, in order for it to become final.

A majority of residents who live the Bay Rym area have requested to be annexed into the city of Okoboji siting several reasons, including having a Lakeshore Drive address, among others.
