Dickinson Co. Considers Dropping Curbside Recycling

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Curbside recycling in the unincorporated areas of Dickinson county may soon be a thing of the past.

The county is negotiating a new contract for its recycling program. Supervisor Chairman David Gottsche wants to know what the difference in cost would be if the curbside service is scrapped and the county goes only with a drop-off system. They hope to have that information soon.

Supervisors are also wondering if there’s a possibility of sharing drop-off sites with cities…something else that’s being looked into.

Gottsche says he’s concerned over a decrease in the amount of recycling being picked up in the curbside program. Those in favor of keeping the curbside program fear it would drop off even more if that service is done away with. They say it makes it more convenient to recycle.
