Dickinson Co. Becomes Part Of Class Action Suit Against Cement Companies In Federal Bid Rigging Case

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson county is now party in a class action lawsuit against a conglomerate of cement companies accused in federal court of bid rigging.

The board of supervisors Tuesday approved a fee contract with some regional and national law firms representing various counties and cities that are signing onto the lawsuit against GCC Alliance.

Assistant County Attorney Lonnie Saunders tells KUOO news Dickinson county has more than five million dollars in concrete projects that are eligible for the litigation, and he says the amount of money the county could recover is significant.

Saunders say the number of litigants, consisting of mainly cities and counties, continues to grow. He says the case will likely become one of the largest class actions this region has seen.

Saunders says under the fee agreement approved by the supervisors, Dickinson county will not have to come up with any money for attorney’s fees in the event a judge or jury does not rule in favor of the litigants.

Saunders says it will likely be several years atleast before there’s a ruling in the case.
