(Dickens)– A Clay county teen was sent to the hospital after being hit by a pickup truck Monday evening.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 8:15 p.m. on 390th Street southwest of Dickens.
Authorities say 19-year-old Christopher Gustoff of Dickens was standing in the middle of the road trying to load a canoe onto his jeep pickup when he was hit by a pickup driven by 19-year-old Jason Birchard of Dickens. Birchard told Deputies he didn’t see Gustoff in the road until it was too late.
Gustoff was taken by ambulance to Spencer Municipal Hospital with incapacitating injuries. He was treated and released.
Charges have been filed against 20-year-old Brady Palm, who was behind the wheel of the jeep at the time of the accident. He was cited for driving while suspended.
Charges against Birchard are pending.
Sheriff Randy Krukow says the incident remains under investigation.
