Dick. Co. Conservation Board Budget Proposal Raises Eyebrows

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Conservation Board is requesting a 39.9 percent increase in its budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

The group presented its annual budget request at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting.

Overall expenditures would increase from 272,134 dollars currently to 385,460. It includes pay raises of 6.45 percent for administrators; 8.83 percent for maintenance/operations personnel; a 35.37 raise is proposed for part-time staff in that division; 8.63 percent for the full-time Naturalist and a 75.28 percent increase is being proposed for the part-time Naturalist.

The proposed budget also includes about 64-thousand dollars for the nature center housed in the former Back Porch building. 50-thousand of that would be used to hire a director, who’s primary responsibility would be to put together a business plan for the facility.

The supervisors took no action on the Conservation Board’s proposed budget, but a couple expressed concern over the increase that’s being requested.
