(Spirit Lake)– Authorities are now ruling the death of four and-a-half month old Shania Laird of Spirit Lake as a tragic accident.
Spirit Lake Police Chief Jon Martyr said this (Tues.) afternoon they’re prepared to make that conclusion following and extensive and thorough investigation.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Dickinson County Attorney’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation also had resources involved in the investigation.
The body of Shania Laird was found in her home on 12th Street in Spirit Lake at about 1:19 p.m. May 16th of this year.
Shania was the daughter of Lori Mason and John Laird of Spirit Lake.
An autopsy determined the child died of asphyxia.
