(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson County Memorial Hospital is switching its blood services affiliation from the American Red Cross to the Siouxland Blood Bank. It’s the result of action taken Monday evening by the hospital’s board of trustees. DCMH Marketing Director Jennifer Hickerson tells KUOO news there were several factors that led to the decision…the main one being cost. Hickerson says the American Red Cross raised its prices by 30 percent in June of this year. By going with the Siouxland Blood Bank, Hickerson says the hospital will save about 23-thousand dollars.
Another factor in the decision, Hickerson says, is the fact that many other area hospitals are also being supplied by the Siouxland Blood Bank…meaning DCMH had to go further to get blood from the Red Cross.
