DCI Joins Investigation Into Fatal Boat Hit & Run

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– Add the Division of Criminal Investigation to the list of agencies investigating a fatal hit-and-run boat crash that took place early in the morning of Friday, August 12th on West Lake Okoboji.

The collision claimed the life of 51-year-old Michael Brosnahan of Perry and seriously injured his wife, 50-year-old Jill, who remains hospitalized.

Jim Saunders of the DCI and Iowa Department of Public Safety says they’re still looking for anything resembling a 22-foot Runabout with two red stripes on it, and says they’re interested in any information on any damaged boats. Saunders says they’re also looking for anyone who was in the Lakes Region during the time of the incident and returned with unexplained injuries.

He says they want to talk with anyone who, during the late evening of August 11th through the early morning of August 12th was on the water or knows of anyone who was on the water in the lakes area; anyone who may have seen any activity at area boat ramps; anyone who took video or still photographs near the water; and businesses that had surveillance cameras with a view of the lake during that time.

Saunders says the DCI is bringing in forensics efforts who will closely study the boat the Brosnahans were aboard. The boat is being stored in a secure location in the lakes area.

The reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of whoever’s responsible remains at 25-thousand dollars.
