Lakefield, Minnesota — The Lakefield Police Department invites community members to attend “What Is Your Family’s Immigration Story?”, a community storytelling event on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Lakefield Multi-Purpose Center.
The event will feature four speakers sharing personal and family immigration stories while highlighting the cultural heritage and experiences that have shaped the Lakefield community.
The program also includes cultural refreshments, music selections representing the speakers’ countries, and a hands-on art project led by Cay Gjertson of the Jackson Center for the Arts. Participation in the art project is limited to the first 20 people to register with LPD.
As we approach the nation’s 250th birthday, this event offers an opportunity to reflect on the journeys that brought families to America and the communities that helped them build new lives.
The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required to help ensure adequate refreshments and to reserve a spot in the art project.
This event is made possible through a grant from the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging and the Southwest Initiative Foundation.
For more information or to register, contact the Lakefield Police Department at (507) 662-5353.
