Crime Victims’ Rights Week Being Observed This Week

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– This week has been designated National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.

Kris Rowley is a Victim Witness Coordinator in the Dickinson County Attorney’s office. She tells KUOO news the primary goal is to inform the public of the services and rights that are available to crime victims.

Rowley says her office can refer victims to a wide range of services and service agencies…such as CAASA and others. She says they also assist victims in obtaining restitution and in writing victim impact statements used by judges in determining sentences.

Rowley says since the position was started last September, she’s already assisted more than 300 crime victims.

Rowley’s position is funded through a federal matching grant the County Attorney’s office received through the Victims of Crime Act.
