(Arnolds Park)– Cries of “save our park” can be heard again in Arnolds Park.
But this time, it’s not an amusement park that’s at stake. It’s a baseball field just east of the cemetary in Arnolds Park.
The field is owned by the Okoboji School District…which is thinking about selling it. They say the field is in need of major repairs; lights need to be replaced and a concession stand was heavily damaged last year when a car crashed into it.
Superintendent Quentin Reifenrath told KUOO news last winter the board is considering selling the field and replacing it with a new one that would be constructed adjacent to existing fields on the north side of Milford.
The issue is expected to come up at the next Okoboji School Board meeting June 10th.
Volunteers spent this past Sunday at the field picking up litter, fixing fences, pulling weeds, painting bleachers and dugouts, raking and repairing the concession stand.
The ball field has been in the Arnolds Park school system since the land was purchased in 1916. It’s been used as a ball field since 1938 and is still occasionally used during the summer for little league games.
