(Spirit Lake)– Things are gradually getting back to normal as the region spent the weekend digging out from Friday and Saturday’s ice and snow storms.
Utility crews spent most of Saturday and Sunday restoring power to thousands of people left in the dark…some since Friday night.
Officials with Alliant Energy and Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative say power was restored to most of their customers by late Sunday.
At the height of the storm, Alliant Energy estimated eight thousand of its customers had lost power; Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative says about two thousand of its customers were in the dark.
Even though power has been restored, officials with both Alliant and ILEC say crews will still be busy for weeks to come repairing damaged lines and poles.
