Crews Bring Up Sunken Barge

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– Crews today (Thurs.) brought up the dock barge that sank last Saturday on West Lake Okoboji. It’s being taken to a secure location where officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources will begin their investigation into what cause it to sink.

Meanwhile, the search for 12-year-old Colin Helmers continues. Crews with the Hennepin county, Minnesota Sheriff’s Office Dive Team continue to scan the bottom of West Lake Okoboji using high tech sonar equipment.

Sheriff Greg Baloun says officials have also been combing the West Okoboji shoreline again today looking for signs of anything that may have washed up.

Funeral services for 31-year-old Matthew Molacek of Wallingford, who was also on the barge, were held earlier today (Thursday). Divers recovered his body Monday.
