(Storm Lake)– A two-vehicle collision Wednesday in Buena Vista county has claimed the life of a Storm Lake man.
Buena Vista county authorities identify the victim as 85-year-old Romaine Schriber.
Authorities say Schriber was eastbound on County Road C-65 when he collided with a trailer attached to a pickup that was parked on the roadway. The trailer came up over the front of Schriber’s vehicle. It entered the passenger compartment and ultimately came to rest on top of the car.
Schriber was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies say the pickup and trailer, owned by Beck Excavating of Spirit Lake, were parked on the road, which is under construction and was closed to through traffic. Concrete culverts were being loaded onto the trailer.
Two employees of Beck Excavating were outside the pickup at the time of the crash but weren’t injured.
