Crane Collapses On Roof Of Pure Fishing-No Injuries

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– No injuries were reported this (Tues.) afternoon in an industrial accident at Pure Fishing in Spirit Lake.

Ron Crowley, Director of Corporate Engineering, tells KUOO news a crane was placing an air conditioning unit on the roof of the southwest side of the plant when the boom collapsed and went through the roof. Crowley estimates about 15 people were working in that area of the plant at the time, but again, no injuries were reported.

The entire plant was evacuated as a precaution for fear of a gas leak. The Spirit Lake Fire Department and law enforcement were dispatched to keep people out of the area, but no leak was detected. Small groups of employees were allowed to return to their work areas to retrieve valuables.

Utilities to the building were shut off and production was halted for the rest of the day and tonight (Tues.). Front office workers are to report for work at their regular time tomorrow (Wed.). A decision for production day shifts for tomorrow (Wed.) will be made later.

Extensive damage was reported to the southwest side of the plant where bait molding takes place.
