(Lake Park)– Another large hog lot is under construction in Dickinson county. This one is in the Lake Park area.
The 4,400 head operation is being constructed in section 15 of Silver Lake Township just north of Lake Park and Silver Lake. It’s being built by Todd Ahrenstorff of rural Lake Park.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says a permit was NOT needed for this project as it will have a total of 594-thousand pounds of live hog weight. The permit threshold is 625-thousand pounds.
Cindy Martens, an Environmental Specialist for the Iowa D-N-R’s regional office in Spencer says a manure management plan was reviewed on March 21st of this year and was submitted to the county a few days later.
Neighbors of the facility being built near Horseshoe Bend County Park southwest of Milford have filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction to stop that project. A hearing is tentatively set for October 14th in Dickinson County District Court.
