(Des Moines)– The Agriculture Department’s Farm Service Agency is expected to close 22 of its 78 county offices in Iowa, including two locally.
The closings are part of the agency’s effort to restructure its services.
Officials say 31 Iowa offices meet the criteria for consolidation. The Dickinson and Emmet county offices are among them.
Under the proposal, the offices to be closed would be combined with offices in a contiguous county.
The agency will work over the next several weeks to determine exactly which offices will be closed.
Workers at the offices to be closed will be reassigned to the newly combined offices.
Farm Service Agency offices help farmers obtain loans and get payments from various farm programs.
