Collision Near Lake Park Injures Four People

November 22, 2014

(Lake Park)– A two-vehicle collision Friday morning on Highway nine two miles west of Lake Park sent four people to the hospital.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 32-year-old Tomas Covarrubias of Layton, Utah was eastbound on Highway nine when he crossed the center line and collided with a westbound vehicle driven by 36-year-old Ginny Gunderson of Lake Park.

Covarrubias and Gunderson were both taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare along with two passengers in the truck driven by Covarrubias. They’re identified as Jesus Martinez of Lexington, Nebraska and Gabriel Lopez of Crete, Nebraska. Their injuries were described as non-incapacitating.

15-thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 2005 Chevrolet truck driven by Covarrubias and owned by Sanderfoot Wind and Excavating, Incorporated of Appleton, Wisconsin. 20-thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Gunderson.

No citations were issued. Authorities say it was snowing at the time and the road was snow and slush-covered.

The collision took place at the height of Friday’s snow storm around 7:00 a.m.

A collision involving three vehicles took place a short time later on Highway 86 in Wahpeton but details into that weren’t available yet as of late Friday.
