(Milford)– There was heated debate Monday over whether or not clean-up days should be resurrected in Milford. The previous city council discontinued the free junk pick up saying the system was being abused.
Debate over the Cleanp Day issue was put back on the agenda at the request of newly-elected councilman Don Lamb who says discontinuance of the free pickup was a huge issue in the last election.
After considerable discussion, the matter was referred to the city’s Finance Committee for a recommendation.
The council also rejected a request for 7,100-dollars in funding from RIDES for a shuttle bus operation.
Also Monday, a citizen expressed frustration over a lack of follow-up on a 65-thousand dollar update of the city’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan. The plan still needs to be reviewed by a citizen’s committee. Original plans called for the engineering firm that authored the plan to facilitate a community meeting. But that was dropped due to concern over cost. City Administrator Brian Reed told the council that responsibility fell back on him, and he doesn’t have time to deal with it. After further discussion, Mayor Virg Wahlman indicated he’d get something worked out for a facilitator and call the committee together sometime in the near future.
