(Spirit Lake)– Light rain earlier this (Monday) morning hampered those still trying to clean up from Saturday night’s violent storm.
The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says the damage that was experienced in the Iowa Great Lakes is indicative of very strong straight line wind. A meteorologist with the National Weather Service made that determination after examining the damage Sunday.
But some in the Harbor on West Lake Okoboji maintain a tornado went through that area. A woman who lives there says she saw one.
An automated weather station six miles west of Spirit Lake recorded a peak wind gust of 96.9 miles-per-hour at 10:28 p.m.
The cities of Arnolds Park and Okoboji are picking up branches at the curb. The branches should be no longer than five to six feet. The cities are offering the service free of charge to homeowners for the next several days.
