Clay County K-9

November 22, 2014

A fundraiser is under way in Clay County to purchase a new K-9 Unit for the Sheriffs Department.
The current K-9 Unit “Bailey” is retiring after 9 years on the job.

Deputy Sheriff Brad Hawley (holly) has been the K-9 handler since they purchased Bailey in 1996. He says Bailey has been an integral part of the Sheriffs Department since the beginning. Hawley says they decided it was time for Bailey to retire after they saw a drop in his energy level and in his aggressiveness. A fundraiser is underway to purchase a new K9 unit for the Clay County Sheriffs Department.
Newly hired Deputy Eric Ring will be the new K9 handler for the Department. He says he is excited to start working with the new dog. Deputy Ring will undergo 6 full weeks of training with the new dog this fall in Indiana.
Candice Emerson is with Farmers Bank in Spencer…..she is helping to raise the necessary funds to purchase the new dog. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the K9 Fund, you can send your check to…… “Clay County Crimestoppers” at 125 West 4th Street, Spencer IA, 51301.
