(Spencer)– The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public of another new scam that’s making the rounds.
Sheriff Randy Krukow says a woman recently reported getting a phone call from an 800 number with the caller stating they were with a student loan program and were wanting to confirm her son’s date of birth and social security number. The date of birth and social security number they gave were not correct. The caller told the woman they wanted the correct information. The woman refused to give it and hung up on the caller.
Krukow says it’s another reminder for residents to never give any personal information over the phone or internet and to report any suspicious activity to your local law enforcement agency.
