(Spencer)– Five people were injured in a one-vehicle accident Friday night in Clay county.
The Iowa State Patrol says 31-year-old Janila Haji of Hartley was westbound on Highway 18 about a quarter of a mile west of 170th street west of Spencer. Authorities say a passenger in the vehicle yelled when Haji got close to the shoulder, scaring her. She then went into the ditch. The vehicle collided with a utility pole before coming to rest.
Haji and four passengers were injured. They’re identified as 44-year-old Giana Hussein, six-year-old Faduna Haji, nine-year-old Hassan Mohammed, and 22-year-old Ali Mohammed…all of Hartley. They were all taken by ambulance to the Spencer Municipal Hospital with minor injuries.
The vehicle Janila Haji was driving sustained an estimated five thousand dollars in damage.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Spencer and Everly Rescue Units and Spencer Ambulance.
The mishap took place shortly after 7:00 p.m.
