Clay Co. Traffic Stop Leads To Charges Against Five People

(Spencer)– Charges have been filed against five people as the result of a traffic stop early Wednesday in Clay county.

The sheriff’s office says a deputy pulled over a vehicle around 2:45 a.m. being driven by 18-year-old Jessica Handy of Sioux Rapids for a traffic violation. After making contact with Handy and passengers in the vehicle, the deputy determined they had been drinking alcohol. An open container of alcohol was also observed in the vehicle.

Handy, 18-year-old Renee Schlichte of Everly, 19-year-old San Juan Tomas Alberto Castro of Sioux Rapids, 19-year-old Thomas Moore of Rembrandt and a 17-year-old Spencer male were all charged with possession of alcohol under the legal age. Moore was also charged with having an open container of alcohol as a passenger in the car.

The four adults were released on citations to appear in court at a later date. The juvenile was released to his parent to appear in juvenile court at a later date.
