City Of Spirit Lake: Political & Other Signs Must Be Moved Off City Right-Of-Way

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake residents with political or other types of signs in their yards better make sure they aren’t on city right-of-way.

Public Works Director Todd Dolphin says all signs must be atleast 10 feet back from the curb.

Dolphin say his office has had complaints about both political and real estate signs that are on city right-of-way.

He says residents will have until Wednesday morning to get the signs moved. Dolphin says city officials will start picking up the illegally placed ones that afternoon. He says they’ll be placed behind city hall, where the owners may pick them up.

Dolphin says the city of Spirit Lake whole-heartedly supports those who want to promote their favorite political candidate with a yard sign. He says they’re just requesting the signs not be placed on city right-of-way.

Many other cities in the area have similar ordinances.
