(Spirit Lake)– The city of Spirit Lake officially took ownership Monday of the buildings that formerly housed Alliant Energy’s Operations Facilities at 1605 and 1607 Ithaca Avenue in downtown Spirit Lake.
The buildings, including the former diesel generating plant built in 1920, have a combined appraised value of 220-thousand dollars. The city has accepted an offer from Alliant to purchase them for 150-thousand…for a savings or gift of 70-thousand dollars to the city. It also includes some personal property such as furnishings and desks.
The buildings have been vacant since Alliant Energy moved into its new 40-thousand square feet operations center on 20th Street in mid-November.
They’ll house the Police Department and its impound lot…freeing up space for the Public Works Department at City Hall and the Public Works Building on Keokuk Avenue.
A timeframe for the Police Department’s move hasn’t been set yet.
Remodeling of the former Alliant Energy buildings will be getting under way very soon.
