(Des Moines)– A subdivision just northwest of Milford will become a part of the city of West Okoboji.
Meeting this (Thursday) morning in Des Moines, the City Development Board approved a request from residents of Ridgeview Estates to be voluntarily annexed into the city of West Okoboji.
The board’s vote was unanimous. It came on the heels of a legal opinion from the Attorney General’s Office which was also in favor of the annexation into West Okoboji.
The issue stems over a dispute between Ridgeview Estates property owners and the city of Milford regarding water service. Property owners were originally allowed to hook up to water…which was extended to the area by Milford…as long as they signed a document stating that they wouldn’t contest any future efforts to annex the area into Milford. However, it was later found that through an oversight by the city, some lot owners were allowed to hook up withOUT signing the document. The city started re-enforcing the requirement after discovering the oversite. Some property owners who want water service have refused to sign, saying they shouldn’t be forced to sign the agreement in order to get the service. They banded together and requested the area be voluntarily annexed into West Okoboji.
