City Council Discusses Lower Gar Outlet

November 23, 2014

(Milford)– Milford City Council members spent a portion of their meeting last night talking about the Lower Gar outlet. County Engineer Dan Eckert was on hand to talk some more about a proposal to replace culverts at the outlet with a bridge. Under a new financing proposal, Eckert said Milford’s share would be 13-thousand dollars…considerably less than what had been proposed earlier. Eckert says the new funding formula is based on population and the amount of lakeshore property the city has. Two-thirds of the funding would come from the county and state…with the remainder from lakes area cities. The Milford City Council had only three members present last night. They took no action on the matter…saying they wanted to discuss it some more when all members can be present.

Interest in the project has mounted as the result of a Corps of Engineers study. It shows the level of West Lake Okoboji isn’t dropping as quickly as other lakes during high water episodes.
