(Spirit Lake)– A record amount of child support was collected last year in Dickinson county.
Deanna McCord, a Child Support Recovery Supervisor with the Child Support Recovery Unit in Spencer tells KUOO news as of March, more than 800-thousand dollars had been collected in Dickinson county.
McCord says a total of slightly more than nine million dollars in child support was collected in the past year for the eight county area the unit serves.
McCord says there were 739 child support cases last year in Dickinson county alone. That’s up from previous years.
McCord says a there’s a direct corelation between the child support caseload and the area’s divorce rate.
