Cherokee Man Sentenced On Federal Drug Charges

November 23, 2014

(Sioux City)– A Cherokee man has been sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison on drug charges.

27-year-old Robert Hare pleaded guilty December 10th, 2009 to one count of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine.

In a plea agreement, Hare admitted that from October 2005 through February 2009 he and others manufactured and distributed 50 grams or more of meth within a thousand feet of the Cherokee School District’s Early Childhood Learning Center in Cherokee.

Hare has a prior 2005 felony drug conviction in Cherokee county for the distribution of marijuana to persons under the age of 18.

In addition to the jail sentence, Hare must also serve a 10-year term of supervised release after the prison term.

He’s being held in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transport to a federal prison.

The case was investigated by the Cherokee and Clay County Sheriff’s Offices, the Cherokee Police Department, Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
