Charges Filed In North

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Charges have been filed in connection with a two-vehicle collision this (Tues.) morning at the north junction of Highways 18 and 71…or the north “Y” in Spencer.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 16-year-old Cortney Alspaugh of Oconto, Nebraska was westbound on Highway 18 and had stopped for a stop sign when he pulled into the path of a vehicle driven by 49-year-old Robin Schmidt of Everly who was southbound on Highway 71. The impact caused the vehicle driven by Schmidt to go into the ditch, coming to rest on some railroad tracks.

Schmidt was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital with minor injuries. No injuries were reported to Alspaugh.

Three thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the front end of a 1999 Dodge conversion van driven by Alspaugh; a 1997 Olds Bravada driven by Schmidt was totalled.

Alspaugh was charged for no driver’s license and failure to yield from a stop sign. His father, Robert Edwards, Junior, was cited for allowing an unauthorized person to drive a motor vehicle.

The crash took place around 7:30 a.m. this (Tues.) morning.
