Charges Filed In Jackson County Double-Fatality Accident

November 23, 2014

(Jackson, Mn.)– Charges have been filed in a crash in May of this year in Jackson county involving a jeep and a rogator sprayer.

The crash claimed the lives of two children who were in the jeep that was being driven by their grandmother, 48-year-old Cheryl Ann Rients of rural Jackson. The two children, ages three and five, were pronounced dead at the scene. Rients was seriously injured.

The driver of the rogator, 29-year-old Ryan Lee Meyer of Round Lake, has been charged with careless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign…both misdemeanors.

Jackson County Attorney Bob O’Connor says no alcohol or other contributing factors were involved.

Meyer’s initial court appearance is set for August 18th. If convicted on both charges he could face up to 180 days in jail and/or a two-thousand dollar fine.
