(Spencer)– A botched robbery attempt has landed two Spencer men in jail.
The Spencer Police Department says 18-year-old Todd Clark and 20-year-old Jeremy David Kubat, both of Spencer, were taken into custody yesterday afternoon and charged with first degree robbery.
Police say they originally were investigating an assault that was reported by Clark who named Kubat as the suspect. As the investigation unfolded, police learned the assault was the result of of a failed robbery attempt of another Spencer man.
Police allege that Clark and Kubat had gone to a Spencer residence early yesterday with the intent to rob the resident of money and property. Authorities say when the two men made contact with the potential victim, they were denied access and left. At that point, Kubat allegedly assaulted Clark over the botched act.
Police also learned the alleged robbery attempt involved weapons, a bottle and a pellet gun that were to be used to intimidate and/or assault the victim.
Police also say the potential victim was known to both Clark and Kubat and was not a random target.
Clark and Kubat are both being held in the Clay county jail. Bond for Clark was set at 32,500-dollars. Kubat is being held on a 39-thousand dollar bond.
In addition to the robbery charge, Kubat has also been charged with serious assault.
