Charges Filed Against Spencer Men In Early Morning Traffic Stop

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Charges have been filed against two Spencer men as the result of a traffic stop early this (Tuesday) morning at the intersection of Highway 71 and 30th Street in Spirit Lake.

Police say they stopped a vehicle shortly after 3:00 a.m. for an equipment violation. As a result, they determined 21-year-old Travis Booth of Spencer had been driving the vehicle without a license. Booth was subsequently arrested and charged with driving while suspended.

A search was conducted of the vehicle that led to the discovery of some drug paraphernalia. A passenger, 21-year-old Manuel Martinez of Spencer, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

As Martinez was being booked into the Dickinson county jail, authorities say they discovered baggies containing what’s believed to be methamphetamine that were hidden inside a pocket of his clothing. That resulted in additional charges against Martinez, including prohibited acts…an aggravated misdemeanor; possession of contraband in a correctional facility, methamphetamine…a class “D” felony; and possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, with intent to deliver…a class “C” felony.

Spirit Lake police were assisted by the Okoboji Police Department.
