Chamber Finalizes Plans For Walleye Weekend

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Plans are already being finalized for this year’s Great Walleye Weekend on the Iowa Great Lakes.

Michelle Hurd, Program Director for the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, says this year’s event will be held May 7th and 8th. She’s hoping to surpass last year’s record number of 1,579 anglers that registered in the contest.

As in the past, anglers will once again try to land one of the specially tagged walleye worth 10-thousand dollars. 18 other tagged fish will also be released…each with a cash or merchandise award assigned.

Last year’s Walleye Weekend raised 20-thousand dollars for the Easter Seals Society of Iowa. Hurd hopes they can surpass that as well this year.

Anyone wanting more information should contact one of the local bait shops or the Chamber of Commerce in Arnolds Park.

This marks the 23rd year for the Great Walleye Weekend.
