Central Emporium Project

November 23, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– An extensive project is about to get underway to protect a historic building and a popular lakes area tourist attraction.

The Arnolds Park City Council earlier this week approved a request from Dick Brown of the Central Emporium to temporarily place construction equipment on a city-owned public access adjacent to the emporium, as long as it’s removed by this coming Memorial Day.

Brown told the council the project will protect the historic building from the shoreline of West Lake Okoboji, which appears to be shifting in that area. He says they’ll be constructing an 80-foot seawall to control the movement. Brown says the building itself will also be jacked up and the floors leveled.

Brown says work on the project is expected to get underway very soon.
