Cause Of Fire In Okoboji That Destroyed 1 Home and Heavily Damaged Another Ruled Accidental In Nature

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– The cause of a fire that destroyed one house and heavily damaged a second late Tuesday night and early this (Wed.) morning in Okoboji has been ruled as being accidental in nature.

Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth says an investigation by his department and the State Fire Marshall’s Office determined the blaze at 3607 Fairfield Street was the result of a malfunctioning electric blanket that ignited some nearby bedding materials in a bedroom on the southeast corner of the house.

The blaze quickly spread and started a house to the south of 3605 Fairfield Street on fire.
