Castillo-Alvarez Hearing Postponed A Second Time

November 23, 2014

(Primghar)– A court hearing that will determine whether Juan Humberto Castillo-Alvarez will be extradited to Minnesota to face charges in the 1997 kidnapping and murder of Gregory “Sky” Erickson has been delayed a second time. It’s now scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 26th at the Clay County Courthouse in Spencer.

The continuation was requested by Castillo-Alvarez’s new defense attorney, Ned Bjornstad of Spirit Lake who wanted the additional time to research some legal matters in the case.

Erickson was killed in an abandoned farm house near Petersburg in Jackson county. Officials there have now filed charges against Castillo-Alvarez and have requested he be extradited to that state. He’s currently being held in the Clay county jail in Spencer.
