Car vs Semi Wreck Injures Royal Woman

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A Royal woman is recovering from injuries suffered when she rear-ended a semi in Spencer Tuesday.

Jessica Bailey of Royal was taken to Spencer Hospital following the collision at 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of Fourth Street Southwest and Grand Avenue.

Police say Bailey was eastbound on Fourth Street Southwest waiting to turn south onto Grand Avenue. A 2001 Freightliner semi driven by Robert Swaink of Silver City, Iowa was southbound on Grand Avenue in the outside lane.

Bailey told police that when the light turned red, she tried to stop but couldn’t. She entered Grand Avenue and struck the semi in the rear set of dual tires. Bailey’s vehicle wound up striking the front of the Harmon Auto Glass building. The Spencer Fire Department had to use the “jaws of life” to get Bailey out of her vehicle because the doors were locked. She was transported to Spencer Hospital with unknown injuries. Swaink was uninjured.

The semi sustained minor damage. Five-thousand dollars worth of damage was reported to Bailey’s 1998 Ford Mustang. The Harmon Glass building sustained one thousand dollars in damage.

No charges were filed in the incident.
