Car-Deer Collision Injures Spencer Couple

November 22, 2014

(Algona)– A car-deer collision east of Algona Thursday sent a Spencer couple to the hospital.

The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office says the mishap took place around 4:20 p.m. on Highway 18 about four and-a-half miles east of Algona.

Authorities say 73-year-old Frank B. Nelson of Spencer was westbound on Highway 18 when a deer ran into the path of his 2001 Lincoln Towncar. The deer hit the upper portion of the windshield and fell into Nelson’s lap. He was able to stop the vehicle on the shoulder.

Nelson and a passenger in his vehicle, 58-year-old Sylvia Nelson of Spencer, were both taken to Kossuth Regional Health Center for treatment of their injuries.

The vehicle sustained an estimated 25-thousand dollars in damage.
