(Estherville)– An investigation into an incident back on October 31st in which a vehicle crashed into an Emmet county lake has resulted in an Estherville man being charged with drunk driving.
The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report from a farmer at the Minnesota stateline in extreme northeastern Emmet county of an intoxicated person laying in a field soaking wet.
Upon arriving a deputy found a vehicle some 150 feet off shore in Iowa Lake with the driver’s side door open. The deputy went into the lake to look for other possible occupants but didn’t find any.
Upon further investigation, the deputy determined 36-year-old Jerred Pattison of Estherville was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Venture eastbound on 570th Avenue when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle traveled straight off the road and plunged into the lake.
Pattison escaped injury, but was arrested in the field a short distance away and charged with second offense OWI. He was booked into the Emmet county jail.
The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Armstrong Police Department, Armstrong Fire Department and the Armstrong Ambulance Service.
