(Spencer)– Clay county authorities say charges are pending in connection with a man who crashed a vehicle he was driving into a bridge.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report shortly after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday of a vehicle sitting on the north end of a bridge in the 3300 block of 210th Avenue in Clay county. Deputies say it appears the driver lost control and struck the right side guard rails of the bridge, causing major damage to the bridge. A 2003 Buick Rendezvous was totaled.
Officers couldn’t find anyone around the vehicle at the time. However, upon investigating, deputies determined the driver was Robert Walking Bull of Spencer. Walking Bull was later located at his residence.
The case remains under investigation and officials say charges are pending.
The Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by Spencer Police, the Iowa Department of Transportation, Clay County Road Department and the Spencer Fire Department.
The bridge was closed until further notice due to structural damage.
