(Spirit Lake)– One of Spirit Lake’s busiest intersections will be closed to traffic starting next week as work progresses on the Hill Avenue South Project.
City officials say the corner of Hill Avenue and 28th Street will be off limits to traffic probably starting Monday (April 19th) as work on the underground infrastructure moves into that area.
Meanwhile, Mark Cotter of the Howard R. Green Engineering firm says crews have been making excellent progress on other parts of the project. He says city crews have completed all utility infrastructure work south of 28th Street and have moved north to 23rd Street. From there, Cotter says crews will move back south to the 28th Street intersection to start work there. They’ve delayed that area to keep it open as long as possible due to the heavy school traffic in that area.
Cotter says there’s been about a two-week delay with private utility companies that are having problems in bringing in equipment. Cotter says they’re being asked to do what they can to get back on schedule.
Cotter says tree stump removal won’t be done until after some fiber optics cables have been relocated. He says it’s presumed some of the cables may actually be going through some tree roots or close by them. Cotter says crews would risk tearing out the cables if they removed the stumps right now.
